The African American Day Parade in Harlem is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic individuals to serve as Volunteer/Intern Block Coordinators for the 54th annual parade. APPLY NOW  As a Block Coordinator, you will play a crucial role in organizing and coordinating parade participants, ensuring a smooth and successful event. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to a historic community celebration, gain hands-on experience in event management, and receive valuable recognition and recommendation letters from a reputable nonprofit organization. The Parade will take place on September 17, 2023.

Responsibilities:

  1. Parade Organization: Assist in the execution of the African American Day Parade, specifically focusing on managing designated blocks of the parade route.

 

  1. Participant Coordination: Communicate with registered participants, including marching bands, dance groups, community organizations, and other stakeholders, to provide them with necessary information and instructions.

 

  1. Block Assignments: Assign participating groups to specific blocks along the parade route based on their preferences, logistical considerations, and the overall flow of the parade.

 

  1. Pre-Parade Meetings: Attend pre-parade meetings

 

  1. Parade Day Support: Be present on the day of the parade to supervise the assigned block, oversee participant check-ins, resolve any issues or conflicts that may arise, and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all involved.

 

  1. Recognition and Recommendation: Upon successful completion of the volunteer/internship period, receive a Community Service letter and letter of recommendation

Qualifications:

  • Ability to work effectively within a team and independently when required
  • Enthusiasm for community events and a genuine interest in African American culture and history
  • Availability to commit to pre-parade meetings, as well as the parade day itself
